Text Messaging News!
As part of our continuing commitment to confidentiality and in line with the new data protection regulations which come into force from 25th May 2018, we are making some changes to our text messaging service.
In order to continue receiving your test results and appointment reminders by text you will now need to OPT IN to this service. To opt in please go to our website and complete the consent form.
Please be aware if you have children aged 0-15 years old
From May onwards, the practice will be moving any mobile phone number contact details that belong to a parent/guardian into the 'emergency contact details' section of their medical records. If that parent/guardian is registered at the practice as a patient and updates their mobile phone number/email, it will now automatically update their childs record as well. Children aged 0-15 years old will therefore, automatically be opted out of the text messaging service. Parents/guardians wishing to continue using the service will need to opt their child back in. Once a child reaches 11 years old, the opt out will occur again and parents/guardians will need to request reminders get sent to them for any appointments made for their child at the point of booking. Any queries please speak to the practice.
For young people aged 16-17 years old
From May onwards, the practice will be moving any mobile phone number contact details that belong to a parent/guardian into the 'emergency contact details' section of a 16-17 year olds medical records. The practice may need to check with any 16-17 year old patients that the mobile number we have on our records belongs to them specifically. The text messaging service will only continue automatically if we have confirmation the mobile belongs to a 16-17 year old personally, or if they give consent for the text messages to continue being sent to the agreed parent/guardian. Parents/guardians mobile numbers will be automatically opted out of the service otherwise.
Mobile numbers on more than one patients record
From May onwards, the practice will be looking to identify mobile phone numbers that are currently held on more than one patients individual contact details. Where these numbers are identified, they will be automatically opted out of the text messaging service and a note will be made on each patients record, that we have a duplicate mobile phone number. We would kindly ask that any patients that share a mobile number get in touch, as we need permission from everyone, before we can opt the phone number back into the text messaging service. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
